Since everyone is now making sniping montage's I figured I'd throw one of my own in the basket as well......However, there is just one issue. What video editing program do you guys use, as it stands right now I only have windows movie maker...
Yep. Video software is ungodly expensive. You might have to turn off the GPU acceleration though, mine was having serious issues until I did that and it's worked beautifully since (of course rendering is a lot slower but it's not too bad) If you just want to compress video and don't need to edit, I recommend Handbrake (it's free) I also recommend VLC if you don't already have it (if so, FIX THAT RIGHT MEOW. it's also free) You can actually trim clips quickly with it WITHOUT having to re-render them. Just open up some footage, go to view > advanced controls, and there is a record button. When you play a clip and want to save a part of it, just hit record and hit record again to stop. The file gets sent to libraries\videos on your C drive (I don't think you can change the location) with the same exact settings the original clip had, INSTANTLY, WITH NO NEED TO RENDER OR COMPRESS ANYTHING. So what I do is, I hit record on ShadowPlay, I go review the footage I took and record parts I want to save, rename it with a descriptive title and file it in the appropriate folders full of clips, and when I want to make a montage, then I just have all the trimmed clips there to work with. (If I could manage to actually go through all the footage I record, it's kind of a total mess) Unfortunately ShadowPlay doesn't work for me anymore because my NVIDIA drivers are out of date (thanks SOE... and Obama) so I can't record at the moment... but I have so much footage it's not too bad.
CyberLink Powerdirector. I don't remember how much I paid for it but I remember it was not too expensive. It was easy to use and did everything I was looking to do. Simple movies and music.
