Got dust? Tired of cleaning your case? So am I. Here's a DIY trick that will save some cash. This thread will be covering the Phantom 410 series case, so adjust as needed per your application. I found that sandwiching the sheet between the case or door of case and the fan was tighter than Justin Bieber's vagina, creating rubbing and noise. So I had to figure a way around it. This is what I came up with. May not look high-class, but it works. For the door, I used clear tape - the kind you use to wrap presents such as the dildo you got for grandma last Christmas. It wont stick to the dryer sheet, so it acts more like a frame to hold the sheet. When inserting the screws, poke through them with scissors first. Forcing them through like a redneck on his sister just makes it twist around the screw. Nobody likes twisting around when screwing. For the front intake, I unscrewed the front grille and sandwiched a trimmed sheet between it and the case. I'm not sure how well this one is going to work out. Kinda like Britney's marriage. And here is what it looks like all buttoned up. Not too bad for 10 minutes worth of work from a white guy. I will revisit this thread in a month or so to see if it actually cut down the dust collection.
.. i predict youll need to swap it out in 2 weeks rather than a month, nice idea i will say and cleanly done
Don't talk about my grams gifts that way!! Nice thread though. I actually had to clean my case last week due to dust and was horrified when I opened up my side panel. It was fucking dust bunnyy palooza 2012 in there. I'm talking chunks. And the fact that we have two cats isn't helping matters. I'm going to give this a try. I'm afraid that one day either my CPU heatsink or my GPU fans are going to get bogged down from dust and either burn out their bearings and cease to work all together. I don't want to fry any components. Keep us updated on how this works out!!
Well, I thought it was a good idea anyway. It's not been long enough to get any conclusive dust results, but it seems these 'filters' are a bit too restrictive for my setup. My GTX480 usually runs around ~59c in BF3 with a custom fan profile through EVGA precision. I'm now seeing temps as high as 80c at 100% fan (5000RPM) - not cool. I know it's the 'filters' because I popped the case open and temps went back down to normal. These cards have a rated temp up to 102c, but research tells me 80c is about as high as I want to go to ensure a good lifespan. I will be removing these and getting some proper high-flow filters.
Try the same idea but just find some less dense material. My case just has cleanable filters so.. just take them out and wipe off anything left over.
I usually give my PC a good dusting with the compressed air canisters every 2-3 weeks or so, love watching the dust fly everywhere then thinking "OH WOW my pc will be so much faster!" but it never is. lol just clean.
