War Thunder Winter Olympics

As you've probably all seen by now, Gaijin has put out their War Thunder Winter Olympics contests coinciding with the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. I am unsure if there will be more contests beyond the three mentioned in the news article. To be honest, the three contests sort of stink and was not what I was expecting it to be. That is, except for the one for "master pilots."

The extra contest for the master pilots (under the "Freestyle" contest) is to make the five connected Olympic rings using aerobatic smoke. The rings can be vertical, horizontal, or really any aspect so desired. The prize is 10,000 golden eagles to the five participants who make the rings. Since the prize is a decent one, I imagine there will be quite a few entries. There was already two attempts on the official thread (one vertical and one horizontal).

We have some pretty good pilots amongst this division that I think could make a very good screenshot. However, we would need to do things to make our screenshot stand out. While there is only five people needed to do the rings, we could use other people to help with other, personalizing elements. These elements could be things like:

• Each plane performing the ring is from a different nation
• Three people use smoke near the rings to make the Russian flag (horizontal white, blue, and red)
• Recreate some elements from the opening choreography to the Olympics like the red balloon and Earth or the dancers with the LED costumes
• Have a plane on fire (maybe an American plane since we are appealing to the Russian developers) symbolizing the Olympic torch
• Have a plane from each country (with clearly marked flags) jockeying for position in a race

Obviously some of these would require more players and a lot of planning and anyone not making the rings probably won't get anything as a reward so the extra players would have to be fairly generous with their time. If there are enough people who want to participate, we need a few things: probably a dedicated Teamspeak channel, a list of planes that could successfully make a perfect loop, and a computer capable of taking beautiful screenshots (max or like graphical settings in large lossless format).

So please, let me know your thoughts on this or any of the other contests. I will update the second post in this thread with any information should we pursue this.

Well I figured I'm not going to escape that damn name, so I might as well embrace it, hehe

 

We would need a plane that wouldn't go out right off and was capable of flying while burning. We found a bug last Saturday, they lit my BF109(the very first one) on fire and it didn't go out or die, it was still flyable(somewhat) and burned for like 5 minutes before someone put a few more rounds into it. Meaning the plane will burn long enough to get the shot.

 

Sounds fun! I've been a bit out of pocket with traveling lately, but if you need an extra body/plane, and I can schedule the time in advance, I'll help out.

 

First need to see if there are any others who want to do it. If we can only come up with five people to do the rings, we need to think of other ways to make it stand out as well.

 

Okay, just upgraded my graphics card to a 270X and with everything on max settings, it's beautiful. I can now capture the screenshots and videos just fine if we can ever organize this.
